Scene 2 summary:
In Oedipus Rex/Oedipus the King scene 2, Oedipus threatened to kill Creon or punish him with exile for his conspiracy with the prophet against him after the departure of Tiresias. Then, Jocasta entered and asked them the reason of their fight. Oedipus explained to Jocasta that the prophet accused him of murdering Laius, and Jocasta replied that all prophecies are untrue. To prove her point, she told the king that according to one prophecy, Laius was meant to be murdered by his son, but his son was moved outside Thebes as a baby. On the other hand, Laius was murdered by a group of thieves on the way.

Her description about the murder of Laius sounded familiar to Oedipus, so he asked her more questions. Jocasta told the king that Laius was murdered at a three-way crossroads before the arrival of Oedipus in Thebes. Oedipus became shocked and said that he might be the person who murdered Laius. He told Jocasta that as a prince of Corinth, he overheard someone saying at a banquet that he was not the real son of his parents. Therefore, he went to meet the oracle of Delphi who did not answer him about his parentage but told him that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. On hearing this, Oedipus left his home and decided to never return to his home. Also, on his way, he was confronted with a group of travellers that he killed during a quarrel. This incident occurred at the crossroads where Laius was killed. Afterwards, Oedipus sent out the survivor of the attack who was a shepherd and hoped that he would not be identified as the murderer. The scene ends afterwards.
